I go to a news board site called Topix a lot. I have made friends there and I'm sure I have made enemies there, but that part doesn't bother me near as much as some of the folks we call trolls.
These trolls hide behind the fact that they can be anonymous and there for they can be hateful. They do it to feel better about themselves, they do it as a game to see if they can disrupt lives and get the boards off of the topics of the articles that we are talking about. They use facts that are pseudo-science to try backing up their "I can hate you because" routine. It makes me wonder just what kind of lives they have outside of harassing people on the news boards. Do they even have lives outside of the news boards?
I wonder how many news boards are like Topix, I know the Yahoo boards got really bad and were finally shut down because there was so much abuse of the TOS. I felt really bad when that happened, because there were so many interesting people to talk with.
I had been looking up news boards and because there are so many different types, I need to narrow down my search parameters. Trolls on news boards brought about this link:
http://tinyurl.com/8zkxqx
3,570,000 English pages for trolls on news boards . I don't know how many of these are actually about the trolls on news boards, but I'm betting a fair amount are.
So on to other things now that I've had my little rant about trolls and the internet.

Yeah, yeah, I know that this is going to be a bit outrageous
I'm tired of fighting tooth and nail with those out there that say gay "marriage" is a crime etc... Specially when personally most gay folks don't care what it's called as long as the same federal and state benefits, rights and responsibilities are involved. I want to get as many out there to help me get the message across that it's not about taking anything away from any one group, but doing what is right to help one group gain what is had by EVERY STRAIGHT COUPLE who has the government marriage license and the ring on the fingers, the inheritance guaranteed to go to the ones that it needs to and all that fun kind of stuff.
Religion need not enter into this as there is a separation of church and state for the reason that this country was never meant to be a theocracy and there are too many different religions in this country make just one the government or state religion. There would be too much fighting if any one group tried it and most of the groups I know don't want to anyway. Did you know the separation of church and state also protects each person's individual right to believe in the church or religion of their choice?
There is a case back east that is making some waves though and for good reason. The church that holds that property has for years allowed the area to be used by the general public, but in the last year or two the church got upset because one couple used that land for a ceremony that the church didn't approve of and with that the legal fight is on. I'm sorry to say that I think the church will lose this one, but they took government money for keeping this land open and for general use of all the people. I feel sorry for this church, but they should have taken the time to be aware of the secular laws.
Secular laws are made for all of the people of this country and as such even though the churches may not like it, they really need to follow the laws. Secular laws are laws that can grow as the country grows. Secular laws are the same as those that granted black people the right to vote, to marry white people and to not get kicked out of their housing for being black.
But did you know that these same laws barely protect those of the GLBT community? Did you know there are many who fight these laws because they say their religion says it's wrong to be GLBT? *sigh* I know I'm opening a big can of worms here, but why would any one CHOOSE to be GLBT? So straight folks, step back a minute and think please, if you had the choice to live the way the religion that you believe in says or live totally outside of that belief, what would you choose? Now think again please, what if you couldn't choose? What if you were put on the outside, because every fiber of your being said how you were trying to live is and will always be a lie? Where is the choice to that?
So I'm looking for moderates, those who can see the other side of the argument, even if you don't agree with it, but can step up and say "It's time to make changes, to make things better for everyone in our country". After all we have a president who says "yes we can" to making a difference. How about you, can you make a difference?
